Blu-Ray Review: The Brave One

(Rating: 2 tubs of popcorn w/ butter)

The Brave One stars Jodie Foster as a happy woman whose life changes forever after a brutal mugging leaves her partner (Naveen Andrews of TV's "Lost") dead.

Foster, a New York radio personality, feeling that the police investigation will be unable to catch the perpetrators, begins to live in constant fear. This results in the woman eventually dispatching vigilante justice (think Death Wish meets Panic Room). Terrence Howard ("Crash") co-stars as the officer in charge of the investigation that eventually consumes both of them.

Unlike Death Wish, I found that the story was good, but was carried out extremely muted and may I say to the point of being ...boring. Seeing Jodie Foster in a victim role similar to one she had years ago may have played a part in my feeling this way. Like my buddy Chris asked me: "Was she thrown on top of another pinball machine in this one? and you know, for me, it was, no...but it could have made the movie better.

Even at the end when she gets her revenge on the scum that killed her man, it left me wondering who was going to be on Letterman that night. Nothing like when she gunned down Buffulo Bill in "The Lambs". Better luck next time Jodie.

Foster did a pretty good job in Brave One, a good demonstration of the power of fear... it felt like the cop compromised his convictions at the end, tho, kind of a let down
